The Ossining Historical Society was organized in 1931 as a non-profit organization. The society has achieved and surpassed its original objectives with a stellar museum and grounds that honor the history and culture of Ossining, NY.
Here you will find Indian artifacts, memorabilia from Sing Sing Prison, early settler tools and utensils, and a representative collection of China. The museum features oil paintings of Ossining, and a beautiful quilt collection. A portrait gallery will help you feel the spirit of Ossining in this historic landmark home dating back to 1872. It was originally owned by Richard Austin. The museum is on the National Register in 1988.
The Ossining, NY museum also features an exhibit of Victorian dolls and dollhouses including dolls, toys, miniatures, old school books and photographs.
More than 250 military maps are catalogued and stored in the museum, along with maps and atlases, dating from 1785.
The museum library features more than 1,000 volumes of books and periodicals used for research and reference.
The Historic Sparta Cemetery is a two-acre cemetery with pre-Revolutionary burials of early settlers and many military servicemen.
